About Naiara Leite

Naiara Leite is the Executive Coordinator of Odara-Instituto da Mulher Negra. An activist of the Black Women’s Movement since 2005, Naiara is journalist and holds a degree in Communication from the Faculty of Technologies and Sciences (FTC) and a Master’s degree in Communication from the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB). A radical Black lesbian feminist, Naiara was one of the leaders of the 1st National Black Women’s March in 2015 and is currently a lead organizer of the 2nd National Black Women’s March. 

Naiara participated in the founding of Rede de Mulheres Negras do Nordeste do Brasil (Black Women’s Network for the Northeast of Brazil), where she organized the 1st and 2nd National Encounters of Young Black Feminists in 2009 and 2017. She is also a part of Rede de Mulheres Afrolatinoamericanas, Afrocaribenhas e da Diáspora (Network of Afro-Latin American, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women) and sits on the Board of Directors of FAU – Fundo de Ação Urgente (Urgent Action Fund), an international feminist fund which provides rapid support to women human rights defenders in Latin America and across the Spanish-speaking Caribbean.
