About Alane Reis

Alane Reis is the Communication Program Coordinator at Odara-Instituto da Mulher Negra. A lesbian grassroots organizer, journalist, and digital media specialist, she has been part of Odara-Instituto da Mulher Negra since 2015. She is co-coordinator of Communication for the 2nd National Black Women’s March.

Holding Master's degree in Communication and Narrative Formats and Bachelor's degree in Communication with a specialization in Journalism, both from the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB)she is the founder and editor-in-chief of Revista Afirmativa, a Black media organization founded on March 19, 2014, which has mission of disrupting the reproduction of racism, sexism, heteronormativity, and racist stereotypes as espoused by traditional corporate Brazilian media.

The mission of Revista Afirmativa is to use communication and journalism to confront patriarchal racism in all its nuances and fight for racial and gender justice, while guaranteeing the representation of Black people in a real, diverse, humanized, useful, and qualified way. 

An activist in the Black Women’s Movement and the Movement for the Democratization of Communication, Alane has worked over 10 years in the field of Journalism, coordinating communication for civil society and developing and managing anti-racist and anti-sexist social projects.
