About Black Feminists Taught Me

A t-shirt capsule and collaboration between Black Women Radicals and Philadelphia PrintWorks, Black Feminists Taught Me is a living, breathing, and traveling exhibition paying homage to the Black women and gender-expansive people who inspire us, touch our lives, shape our politics, and teach us–in a myriad of ways–about life, love, leadership, and legacy.

Spearheaded by Jaimee A. Swift, founder and executive director of Black Women Radicals and The School for Black Feminist Politics and Maryam Pugh, CEO and owner of Philadelphia PrintWorks, the first collection in the ongoing partnership pays homage to Black feminists in Philadelphia, who have and continue to shape the socio-political and cultural landscape of the “City of Brotherly Love.”

“Sit A Spell” Exhibition at the Colored Girls Museum Exhibition featuring the Philly Edition of Black Feminists Taught Me: Tours Open!

Tours are now open to view the Afro-futuristic speakeasy exhibit of the “Black Feminist Taught Me” collection honoring Black women and gender expansive organizers in Philly at The Colored Girls Museum (TCGM). The exhibit is titled Sit A Spell, An Invitation. An Invocation “…is an invitation to celebrate the work of new artists from the African diaspora. It’s also a call to Black women to invoke the wisdom of their ancestors, remember their history, and chart a path to their future. Just taking the time to Sit A Spell at TCGM is an act of resistance.”

The Colored Girls Museum is a memoir museum founded by Vashti DuBois that honors the stories, experiences and history of ordinary Colored Girls. The complete exhibit is open now and will run through September.

The School for Black Feminist Politics (SBFP) is the political education hub and initiative of Black Women Radicals. Established in 2020, the mission of SBFP is to empower Black Feminisms in Black Politics by expanding the field from transnational, intersectional, and multidisciplinary perspectives.
